Carson Clark, senior anchor of the Lowell Red Arrow Boys Varsity Bowling Team, was in action Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the MHSAA Division 2 State Individuals Tournament. The State Individuals Tournament program brings the top 60 regional bowlers in each Division to face off against each other and determine the top bowlers in the state, by Division.
The Division 2 Tournament was held at Super Bowl Lanes in Canton, Michigan. Clark earned his way into the tournament by winning the Region 7 Individual Tournament at Sherman Lanes in Muskegon last Saturday. The State Tournament format consisted of a six-game Qualifying Round, changing lanes after each game, resulting in a “total pin” cut to the top 16 to advance to seeded match play.
Clark bowled well all day; nothing spectacular, just consistently making good shots. He averaged 207 over the 6 games, finishing the Qualifying Round with 1245 pins, good for the #5 bracket slot. He won his first two, 2-game total pin matches, and advanced into the Quarterfinals, where he suffered a frustrating loss. Coach Chris Clark noted that the loss was particularly disappointing because the score results do not reflect how well Carson threw the ball. “Carson had a ball malfunction at the end of the Qualifying Round, and the ball that was most suited to the Quarterfinal lane conditions was not available. He adjusted the best he could with the equipment available – and made good shots – but didn’t get the ball reaction needed to carry the number of strikes necessary to win at this level of competition. As this is his senior year, Carson is obviously disappointed that he did not get the opportunity to reach the finals, but he should be proud of the way he bowled all day – and all year.”
During the course of the 12 games he bowled throughout the day, Carson Clark had high games of 218, 236, 236, 205, 199, 212, and 219.
Over the course of his 4 year stint as a member of the Lowell Red Arrow Varsity Bowling Team, Carson Clark has contributed to an impressive list of team and individual accomplishments:
