Saturday, February 17 found the Lowell Red Arrow Bowling teams in action at the Mona Shores Invitational at Sherman Lanes, a 50 lane bowling center in Muskegon. The house was full with a combination of 24 boys teams and 23 girls teams from throughout West Michigan. Sherman Lanes will host the Division 2 Regional Tournament in two weeks. Coach Chris Clark used this tournament to provide exposure to the Sherman playing conditions for each of the 7 boys team members who will be eligible to bowl in the Regional Tournament on Friday and Saturday, February 24 and 25.
The day began with a Qualifying Round after which the field was cut to the top 8 teams; followed by seeded quarterfinal, semifinal, and finals matches. The Qualifying Round consisted of 3 regular games and 4 Baker games, during which all 7 Red Arrow bowlers rotated in and out of games. The Boys ended the Qualifying Round in 6th Place and moved in to the Quarterfinals, where they defeated #3 seed Grand Haven in a 2-game Baker total pin set. In the Semifinals, the Lowell boys defeated #2 seed Rockford by over 100 pins in another 2-game Baker set, moving them into a finals match against the Knights of Kenowa Hills. The boys lost their 2-game Baker set to Kenowa by a total of 12 pins, and brought home the 2nd place trophy, along with a lot of good experience in preparation for the Conference and Regional tournaments coming up.
The Lowell Red Arrow Boys will bowl their last regular Conference Match on Wednesday, February 14 at Eastbrook Lanes against Forest Hills Central. The Conference Tournament will occur Saturday morning, February 17 at Northfield Lanes.
