Lowell Red Arrows Varsity beat Cedar Springs 7-5 on Monday.
Cedar Springs opened up scoring in the second inning when Newman singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
Lowell Red Arrows Varsity took the lead for good with six runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Logan Staley doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, Nick Weston singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and Brady Douma singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Jackson Helder was credited with the victory for Lowell Red Arrows Varsity. He lasted three innings, allowing two hits and four runs while striking out four. Weston and Connor Douma entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Douma recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Lowell Red Arrows Varsity.
Zain took the loss for Cedar Springs. He allowed six hits and seven runs over four innings, striking out three.
Helder led Lowell Red Arrows Varsity with two hits in three at bats.
Newman went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Cedar Springs in hits.
