Our featured male senior student-athlete of the week is Ethan Quiggle. He has played his fair share of sports over the years. He played football his first two years, basketball his freshman year, and baseball his freshman year. Finally he played lacrosse from his sophomore year up through his senior year.

In terms of his favorite sports memory, Ethan explained that winning a Lax-At-The-Lake tournament during his sophomore year for lacrosse had to be the one. Speaking of lacrosse, Ethan mentioned that was his favorite sport. Jimmy Howard, current NHL goalie for the Detroit Red Wings, is his favorite athlete.

Ethan said a favorite non-sports memory of his was when the seniors played the staff in basketball. This is mainly because he and his friends joked around so much and it was overall just a ton of fun to watch.

After his last few days at the high school, Ethan will move on to play lacrosse on a bigger stage at Calvin College. If he decides not to play anymore, a career in plumbing is Ethan’s next plan of action.

Our female senior student-athlete of the week is Lizzie. Besides sideline cheer her freshman year, Lizzie has spent her entire high school years dedicated to track & field each spring. For the track & field team, Lizzie is known for her hard work and commitment to sprinting and pole vaulting.

Lizzie’s favorite sports memory is a tasty one. After each warm practice, Coach Cummings would bring the team a bag of popsicles. After graduating, she will certainly miss those tasty treats.

When we asked her what her favorite sport was, Lizzie was deciding between track & field and football, so she said both are her favorite sports.

Academically, Lizzie is up there with a few of her fellow senior student-athletes of the week when it comes to making the honor roll all four years of high school. Athletically, she is honored to be a captain on the track team this spring. She has also broken her pole vault personal best at each meet so far this year!

Outside of athletics, Lizzie has long been active in the agricultural field as a member of the FFA (Future Farmers of America). She is also proud to have played the cello as part of the chamber orchestra these past couple of years.

Lizzie’s future plans include attending Ferris State University and majoring in forensic biology or biology.

With graduation right around the corner, we wish these two the best of luck with their future careers and success.
