In this week’s edition of SSAOTW, we feature two more outstanding student-athletes! Our two senior student-athletes of the week presented by JDubb’s Signature Subs of Lowell are Charlie Hayes and Amber Brown.
Charlie is one of our students who has played both hockey and lacrosse from his sophomore year up through his senior year.
His favorite sports memory would be winning the regional title with the hockey team during his junior year. Lowell-Caledonia beat Grand Ledge-Fowlerville in overtime to win the program’s first ever regional title.
When asked who his favorite athlete is, he gave us the name Auston Matthews. If you follow hockey, you would know that he is a 2nd year player for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Since we are on the topic of hockey, that just so happens to be Charlie’s favorite sport as well.

Charlie’s most outstanding athletic achievement is when he was named as an all-conference player. After his days at LHS are up, Charlie plans on attending Central Michigan University.
Amber is also one of our many multi-sport athletes at the high school! Throughout her four years, she was a part of the JV sideline cheer team her freshman year, varsity sideline cheer team for her sophomore through senior year, varsity competitive cheer her freshman year, varsity gymnastics her sophomore through senior season, varsity track & field all four years, and girls club wrestling in her senior of high school. She placed 3rd in the state as an individual in wrestling and was a part of the team’s state championship.
With all the sports Amber has played over the years, she said that gymnastics is her favorite. Her favorite athlete is fellow gymnast and teammate, Maura Fitzpatrick.
Amber has racked up many athletic and academic achievements as a student and student-athlete at the high school. Her most notable achievements happen to be honor roll, the presidential fitness award, placing third in the state for girls wrestling, becoming a regional qualifier for all three years she has been part of the gymnastics team, and finally receiving four varsity letters.
Once her days at LHS are over, Amber plans on staying local to attend Davenport University. While there, she plans on enrolling in their BSN program to be a trauma/emergency nurse. On top of that, she will continue her cheer career as part of two teams by scholarship.

Amber said that her favorite non-sports memories came during the varsity football season where she went to the games with her friends Sky Angelo and Vanessa VanderBoon, then followed up by going to Steak ‘N Shake late at night. She would also like to take this opportunity to thank Coach DeHaan for teaching her how to be respectful to both herself and to others, have proper manners, and to be the gymnast she is today. Coach DeHaan is what Amber calls, her “second mom”.
Finally, her favorite sports memory was when she ended up winning that third place spot for the 139 weight class in girls wrestling during her senior year.
We wish the two of these outstanding individuals the best of luck as they move on to their next step in life! Thank you to J-Dubb’s Signature Subs of Lowell for sponsoring our Senior Student-Athletes of the Week.
