Red Arrows News · Senior Student-Athletes of the Week – Roman Rozell & Kelly Reitsma

SSOATW – Week 2, 2017

Another week has come and gone, so it’s time to introduce to you to our next two senior student athletes of the week!

Roman Rozell

First off, we have one of our avid Red Arrow sports fans, Roman Rozell.

Roman began his high school career playing baseball in the spring, then moved on to tennis for his sophomore, junior, and now senior year.

Last year was when Roman experienced his favorite sports moment which happened to be night tennis with the whole tennis team. The courts were lit up by headlights and flood lamps. (#dontsleeponlowelltennis) Roman is the captain for the varsity squad this tennis season as he was last year.

His favorite sport is tennis, and his favorite athlete happens to be Roger Federer.

After high school, Roman plans on pursuing a career in sportscasting after going to college to get a degree in sports communication.

His favorite non sports moment as a student at Lowell High School was being part of the school news show, ‘The Red Arrow Report’, and had a blast testing out a possible future career.

Roman has also been a huge help with WRWW sportscasts throughout his high school career! He has covered both baseball and softball games in the spring, and it appears he won’t stop now.

Kelly Reitsma

Our senior female athlete of the week is Kelly Reitsma!

Kelly has played both volleyball and basketball as a student at Lowell High School. So far, she has played basketball all three years. On top of that Kelly has stuck to volleyball all four years.

Her favorite sports memory was last season when their volleyball team came back to beat Forest Hills Central in five sets.

Volleyball is Kelly’s favorite sport.

Her favorite athlete is Abby Cole, a graduated volleyball player from the University of Michigan.

When Kelly isn’t playing volleyball, her attention has been focused on the National Honor Society, which she has been a part of since her sophomore year. Her sports related achievements include, the Red Arrow award for her freshman year of volleyball, honored captain of her volleyball team in her freshman and JV seasons, scholar athlete for her junior year of volleyball, and the sportsmanship award for basketball last season as well. She was also the captain of her basketball team her sophomore year.

Kelly has been an amazing athlete as a Red Arrow, but she has yet to decide on what she will do after high school.
