Week 1 SSAOTW – Addison Buckius & Sydney Powell

We begin our 2017-2018 Senior Student-Athlete of the Week segment with Addison Buckius and Sydney Powell!

Addison Buckius

Our first male senior student-athlete of the week is Addison Buckius! Addison will have played football all four years following the conclusion of this season. He has also played basketball for three years, lacrosse for two years, and was on the JV golf team in 2016.

His favorite memory while playing a sport for Lowell came last year during the 2016 football season. It was when the varsity team came back to beat close neighbor Forest Hills Central during the regular season and in the playoffs after being down by as much as a couple of touchdowns in both games.

Addison also mentioned that his favorite sport is football.

His favorite athlete is former wide-receiver for the Detroit Lions, Calvin Johnson.

Addison has yet to decide what his plans are after graduating from Lowell, but his favorite non-sport memory as a student was hanging out with the guys at Ethan’s house.

Sydney Powell

Our first female senior student-athlete in the spotlight for this week is Sydney Powell! Sydney, who has a love for the game of Volleyball, will have played it all four years of her career at LHS following the conclusion of this fall season. In addition to volleyball, Sydney also made an appearance with the basketball program during the 2014-2015 school year (her freshman year).

Her favorite sports memory as a student-athlete, was when the LHS varsity volleyball team beat Forest Hills Central on the road. It was a win in five sets after coming back from down 0-2 in their district semifinal game in 2016.

With volleyball in mind, Sydney did mention that it is her favorite sport.

Her favorite athlete is April Ross, a professional beach volleyball player for the United States.

When Sydney hasn’t been playing volleyball her mindset has been focused on her academic achievements. This includes being a part of the honor roll for all three years of high school so far and being a member of the National Honors Society as a junior and senior. She has also accomplished two athletic achievements as well! Sydney was the captain of her volleyball team as a junior and will be again for her senior year. Not only that, but she was also awarded all-conference honorable mention honors for her junior season of volleyball.

Although Sydney has not yet decided on a college to, she has primarily set her sights on majoring in business and marketing.
